Video: 450-Page Google Docs Presentation

The video above was created over 3 days by 3 animators across 450 pages. No animation software was used whatsoever, just Google Docs’ presentation app. As proof, you can actually view the original presentation, but be warned, it's a huge file.

This is the most glorious waste of time that I have ever witnessed involving productivity software. Bravo! I am officially a Google Docs user for life.

40,000-year-old rock paintings are alive. "These organisms are alive and could have replenished themselves over endless millennia to explain the freshness of the paintings' appearance," Professor Pettigrew told BBC News.

Artist Cheong-ah Hwang creates amazing sculptures in layers of paper, including Alice in Wonderland, Comic book superheroes, and Star Wars.

Video: Speed Painting Avatar

Like many people, Peter Ammentorp began wondering what he would look like if he were Na'vi, the sapient humanoid indigenous inhabitants of Pandora in the movie Avatar.

Out came the laptop, and under the power of Photoshop, Ammentorp was transformed from human to Na'vi in no time.  I know that there are many online applications out there that will do something similar to an uploaded photograph, but they don't produce results like this.  Those online utilities tend to produce something that comes across like demented Smurfs.

Quick Pic: Shopping Cart Christmas Tree

“The shopping cart tree symbolizes both generosity and abundance, as well as acknowledging those less fortunate where their whole world may be housed in a cart. We see shopping carts every day and take them for granted. Individually the beauty of an everyday object may become invisible, but in quantity you can’t miss it,” says Anthony Schmitt of his design.

The 2010 tree is made out of mostly full size carts with some smaller versions at the top to create a forced perspective of height. The carts are supported by an internal structure that remains nearly invisible, allowing the carts to seem like they were merely stacked atop one another and left in that perilous formation.

Crafts: Tardis Quilt

Tardis Quilt by Craftster user Gatheredthreads

I made two of these pretties. One for sloth003 in the stocking swap, and one for my DH's community workshop classroom.

The technique I settled on was to choose the fabrics for the ground, water, and sky, scan them in to the computer, and piece them there for the background. Then I created the tardis graphic and the building, then printed it on fabric with Bubble Jet Set.

Then the quilt has an LED embedded in it that fades in and out behind the beacon (it's brighter in person).

A retired French electrician and his wife say they stashed 271 pieces of never-before-seen works estimated to be worth at least $80 million in their garage. The works are believed to be authentic, but it's not quite clear how they came to be in the couple's possession.  Pierre Le Guennec, 71, reportedly says Picasso gave him the works as gifts, raising the central question of this story: why don't I get gifts like this?
